Tutor Time Reading

To help build a reading culture and to normalise reading every day, students are expected to bring a reading book to school and read for 10 minutes every morning as part of their tutor session.

Once a week, all students have a 30-minute reading session in their tutor groups.

Staff in the school have put together articles for these sessions into “the literacy booklet”. These articles cover a range of topics and aim to increase students’ exposure to vocabulary, improve general knowledge and also provide an opportunity for staff “Read Aloud” reminding students of helpful reading techniques.

Students are also exposed to “word of the week” which is discussed as a tutor group and the challenge is set to incorporate the word into everyday learning. Staff can reward students using it correctly.
