As part of an Enrichment session this term, Year 12 students focused on their core stability with personal trainer Ross Elliott.

A former Chew Valley Sixth Form student himself Ross returned to the school to lead a circuit training session with the lower sixth students. As Ross explained to the students before the class got underway, he works with everyone from athletes to 80-year-olds from his base at Chew Medical Practice. After successfully completing his A levels at Chew Valley, Ross went on to study for a degree in Sports Science at the University of Portsmouth. After graduating Ross spent two seasons as Strength and Conditioning coach at Bath Rugby before opening his own personal training business in the valley in 2008.

With the enrichment session aimed at all fitness levels, Year 12 enjoyed the break from the usual Monday morning routine. A wave of studies has shown how exercise can improve concentration, memory and creativity and it was great to see Year 12 make such an active start to the day!
