Over the last two weeks the whole of Year 8 have taken part in a joint project between the Science and DT Faculties about rockets. In Science, students have taken part in workshops about the Biology of being an astronaut (although we're not sure whether you really can make ice cream with liquid nitrogen on an actual rocket), the Chemistry of explosions and the Physics of....explosions! (You can't get away from them with Mr Davis and Mr Thorley). In DT students got down to the nitty-gritty of actually designing a rocket with a two-stage chemical motor. In the afternoon the designs were tested (sometimes to destruction) by being set off on the bottom field.

Points were given for teamwork, design and flight characteristics, and prizes awarded in assembly on Thursday. Many thanks to Mr Davis and Mr Turner who organised the days.

Student Comments:
'That was brilliant, having the whole day on one project made it really worthwhile'
'The liquid nitrogen was awesome', 'Thanks, I really enjoyed it'
'Mr Davis, what is he like?'
'Can we do more stuff like that please?'
