Science GCSE Revision
Recommended revision guides / resources:
l Lonsdale; www.lonsdalesrg.co.uk. Look for the AQA Double Award Modular Tested Modules book (for last years’ work) and the Terminal Exam book for this years.
Recommended websites: http://www.aqa.org.uk/qual/gcse/sci_da_m.html. This will take you to the Double Award Science page where you can find past papers with answers along with Examiners’ Reports that describe areas of the Science curriculum that students have trouble with.
Top tips for revising this subject:
l Review your notes on a regular basis. You should go over them every couple of weeks, make sure they are complete and that you understand them.
l Think about trying to explain concepts rather than just describing them: eg ‘You can get Huntingdon’s Disease even if just one parent has the gene for it…….’(description)…..’because the Huntingdon’s allele is dominant’. (explanation). OR ‘The Haber Process uses a catalyst and high pressure and temperatures’ (description) ‘because nitrogen and hydrogen do not react together very well and yields are too small otherwise’.
l Don’t forget to learn the work from last year (on the syllabus you have been given or on the website).
l Set yourself a revision timetable from Easter onwards and stick to it.
l Learn the important processes in detail. Your Science Teacher will point them out as you go through each topic.
l Ask your teacher, they are more than happy to spend some time with you at lunch time if you need points clearing up.
