Year representatives
Matthew Uppington and Becca Fricker have been elected as Year 10 representatives. They will meet with Mrs O’Callaghan and attend school Council forums.
Inspirational pupils
With the Olympic theme for this term being “Inspiration”, form tutors were asked to nominate pupils to achieve recognition for their inspirational attitude. Ed Stowell (10W) was nominated for his leadership qualities on the football field, Julia Head (10H) for her role as a Young Ambassador for our school and Mike Clark (10L) for his commitment to PE.
Welcome Mr Daintith
We welcomed back Mr Daintith, an old friend of the school, who delivered an entertaining and informative presentation on the theme of “politics” This was followed up by some group work where the students were encouraged to play the role of politicians in prioritising various important national and local issues.
Boys Rugby
The year 10 rugby team continued their fantastic run in all competitions by reaching the quarter final of the Daily Mail Vase and semi-final of the super 8's competition (top 8 teams in AVON). Recent results in the Daily Mail Vase include a superb 31-10 win against All Hallows School, which was followed by an impressive 21-12 win over Perins Secondary School. The boys played particularly well against a well organised and aggressive Perins defence. However, tries from Elliot Joyner and Ryan Harding and two conversions from Joe Cowell meant that we were up 14-0 at half time. The second half saw Perins dominate both possession and territory, which eventually led to them scoring two tries and converting one, making it a very edgy 14-12 score line. Fortunately, some outstanding defending led to Lukas Gentle intercepting an offload and scoring underneath the posts to make it 21-12. All of the squad played extremely well, with particular plaudits going to Charles Pearce, Alex Monk, Michael Bray, Nick Manville, Oliver Morgan and man of the match Reece Carter.
Congratulations go to Ollie Morgan who has been invited to play for the Welsh Exiles representative side on Wednesday 22 February. This is the first step to what could lead to a Welsh U16’s or U18’s cap.
