Year Nine

It has been a wonderfully active term for Year 9.The most recent event was the trip to the farm where all the students had the opportunity to see the hard work that goes into producing milk. Some of them had the chance to actually milk a cow which was a novel experience for them!

Stop Press: World Champion Alert!!

We also have the prestigious honour of having a World Champion in our midst! Aston Cook from 9H competed in the World Kickboxing Championships in America earlier this month and won her age group. This effectively means that she is the World Champion which is an incredible achievement and we are all really proud of her.

A group of students have been selected as ‘Buddies’ for the new Year 7 students in September. They have an integral role on the Induction Day assisting with welcoming the students and giving general advice. In September they will extend these duties and will help all the students settle into the new regime by visiting the tutor groups and being on hand to help with any problems that may arise.  They performed their duties to a high standard on Induction Day and I know will be a wonderful example to the new intake.

Recently the students had the opportunity to participate in a Community Sports Day and sampled all manner of sports that they had chosen to try. Hopefully this will encourage more and more of them to participate in these activities, and develop new skills.

Elliot James and Claire Hammett took part in the Young Peoples’ Parliament debate at Bath Spa University on the 9th July. This was a presentation to over 200 people including Councillors, representatives from Children’s services, plus Members of Parliament. They did an excellent job and obviously have a future in politics if they wish to pursue it!

A large number of Year 9 students are involved in the production of ‘Private Peaceful’. They have been diligent in their preparations and gave magnificent performances throughout the week.

Rory Ellis and Luke Treneman were published in the Bristol Evening post ‘Banter’ supplement with articles about football. Possibly some budding pundits here in the making!

The final event to look forward to is the celebration to culminate the years’ successes. With so much success it may be difficult to fit everything into one lesson but we’ll do our best.

Then it will be the graduation to ‘Black Jumpers’ in September. A new start, with a new Head of Year, Mr Brown, and Mrs McGivern as Deputy. So much to look forward to and so much success to reflect on!

Good luck Year 9.........make the most of it from now on.
