Kay Downey, Jess Harding, Ailsa Mackie and Ella Gregory, competed against two other schools in the county round of the badminton tournament at the University West of England. They won all their matches bar one winning the tournament. They came home with the shield (which Chew Valley has won the last 2 years) and a medal each. In March they will be going to Exeter for the final round of the competition.
Football.
The Y9 girl’s football team went to Filton College for a tournament, reaching the semi finals and finishing runners up. In the Somerset County match, Chew Valley narrowly lost 1-0 to Sexey’s School.
Cross-country
After the B&NES Cross Country, Charlie McDonald went on to represent B&NES in the Avon Cross Country Championships. It was held on a chilly Saturday morning on the playing fields at the top of Bath. Charlie had a good race and came third and will compete in the English Schools South West Cross Country.
Hockey
The Y9 girls’ hockey team beat Writhlington School 1-0. Well done to Charlotte Fowler for scoring the goal and to Hannah Yeatman for being named girl of the game.
Danielle Ireland
In October 2011, I took my Tae Kwon Do black belt. I have been working my way up through 11 belts to get to my black belt. On the grading you have to go through patterns, sparring, line work and theory which is all in Korean, which is the language of the country the sport is from. I have been doing Tae Kwon do for 4 years now. I really enjoy all aspects of Tae Kwon do which includes breaking wood with my foot and hand.
