Yr10 Football Team win District Championship
The Year 10 football team have finally fulfilled their undoubted potential by becoming BANES District champions. Having won their league convincingly before Easter (and reached the Somerset Schools Cup Final), they travelled with excitement (and a lot of support) to Twerton Park in Bath for the final against Writhlington.
However, an administrative error meant that there was no opposition. The lads took their frustration out with a kick about on the lush pitch before returning home empty-handed.
The game was rearranged and Writhlington turned up looking like they had been in GrowBags - they were huge. The Chew boys have played together for four years and have matured as a unit. As a tense first half wore on it was clear that they were the better side but were fluffing their lines in front of goal (not for the first time this season). Mr Edwards delivered a Churchillian speech at half time and the lads responded with their best half of the season. Composed and assured, they out-passed Writhlington, Josh Joyner's measured through ball finding George Mitchell who slotted home. The boys relaxed and John Pearce latched on to a long Joyner free kick to make it safe. At the other end, the back five were mature and composed, centre backs Ryan Penney and Jake Hepburn giving their all. With five minutes left another excellent Pearce cross found Mitchell who back-heeled home to claim the cup in style.
In truth this was a classic team performance and credit goes to all 13 players - there was no single man-of-the-match. Now let's make Year 11 just as successful.
