Pictures from the German Markets Visit 2009
Some pictures from the visit to the German Markets in Boppard, Bonn, Koblenz and Cochem - December 2009.
Pupils from Chew Valley School got into an early festive mood when they travelled to the heart of Germany’s Rheinland last week.
The group of 37 pupils ranging in age from Year 8 to Year 12 were described by Mr Lewis, a seasoned German Markets Tripper as “wunderbar” and the coach drivers were most impressed with their good behaviour. Highlights of the long weekend included visits to Deutsches Eck in Koblenz, where the rivers Rhein and Mosel meet, the medieval town of Cochem with its cobbled streets and the Christmas Market in Bonn, situated right next to the cathedral. Pupils did their best to try out their German in the shops and markets, although their appetite for lessons from Frau Kerr in the bus on aspects of German history and culture gradually waned. Mr Brown did a marvellous job of keeping everyone entertained in the evenings – the quiz round entitled “German or not German” proved to be highly contentious and Tom Harris in Year 12 did well to cope with the backlash from his team mates (the drivers) when they failed to win! Everyone agreed that Frau Milne’s kinaesthetic approach to revising German numbers followed by a game of “Lotto” was great fun, even if the cash prize of 37 cents was a little disappointing.
All in all, it was a lovely weekend and many were sad to say “Auf Wiedersehen” to Germany…. but next year’s trip is being planned already!
