Oxfam's Millenium Development Goals

During our double Geography lesson last Wednesday, two Year 10 classes joined together to learn first hand what it feels like to live in a less economically developed country. Ebi Agidee is an Oxfam worker from Nigeria.  She introduced to us the 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) set up by the United Nations General Assembly in the year 2000. They are realistic international targets for reducing global poverty. They aim to lift around 500million people out of poverty by the year 2015, dramatically changing their lives.
The eight MDG’s include:

·         Reducing Poverty

·         Giving every child an education

·         Creating equal chances for women and girls

·         Reducing the number of babies and children who die

·         Ensuring safe and healthy motherhood for all women

·         Fighting infectious diseases

·         Cleaning up the environment

·         Promoting cooperation among all countries

Ebi helped widen our views on worldwide issues such as poverty and climate change, linking in with our current topic: Aid and Development.
