Memorial Garden Theft
Monday 18th May 2009
Pupils and teachers at Chew Valley School are devastated to learn that a beautiful memorial sculpture has been stolen from the school. It is believed the theft occurred on the evening of Friday 15th May. The piece of art, carved from a single piece of oak stood almost two metres high, depicting an eagle with wings stretched upwards.
This outstanding work by a sculptor at Westonbirt Arboretum was purchased by subscription in 2005 to commemorate the life of inspirational teacher, Mr Pete Brown, who died in service.
The remarkable sculpture was a fitting tribute to Mr Brown. A plaque on the base of the sculpture read ‘Inspired by Nature – an Inspiration to All’.
If anyone can provide the police or the school with information which might enable us to recover the sculpture or prosecute the thieves, please do not hesitate to do so.
Update - 20th July 2009
Chew Valley School has commissioned a relacement statue from local artist, Patrick Barker. Many thanks to friends and parents for your generous gifts.
