Memorial Garden Update
Earlier this term pupils and teachers at Chew Valley School were devastated to learn that a beautiful memorial sculpture had been stolen from the school. The piece of art, carved from a single piece of oak stood almost two metres high, depicting an eagle with wings stretched upwards.
This outstanding work by a sculptor at Westonbirt Arboretum was purchased by subscription in 2005 to commemorate the life of inspirational teacher, Mr Pete Brown, who died in service.
The remarkable sculpture was a fitting tribute to Mr Brown. A plaque on the base of the sculpture read ‘Inspired by Nature – an Inspiration to All’.
Rising above adversity, a dedicated team spent time over enrichment week tidying up the memorial garden. A new sculpture has been commissioned by Patrick Barker and Year 9 and 10 art students are working on wire sculptures with a local artist.
There will be a community garden unveiling in September (date and time to be confirmed). There will be refreshments and an opportunity for people to come and enjoy the garden with their pic-nics. We hope the day will be a wonderful way to commemorate the life of Pete Brown.
