Becky and Tom receive commendation for volunteering

Year 11 students Becky Cox and Tom Vipond were recently presented with Bronze Youth Sport Trust Certificates for completing 50 hours of volunteering. These certificates are a nationally recognised award which rewards 14-19yr old students for their commitment within the sporting community.

Becky coaches youngsters at Bishop Sutton Tennis Club each Friday, also helping to organise competitions for children from 4 to 14. She umpires matches and has started coaching netball at the school. Tom runs a badminton club at Chew Valley, organises popular handball tournaments for Years 7 and 8, and is a captain when the primary schools have sporting events at the school. He is also one of the four BANES Young Ambassadors, going into primary schools to promote Olympic ideals as 2012 approaches.

Becky and Tom are the first ever students in BANES to achieve these awards and both are well on their way to fulfilling the silver award target of 100 hours. Congratulations to these youngsters who put the sporting community at the front of their efforts. They are a credit to the school.
