Year 7

Chew Valley 3 Writhlington 1

Twerton Park, Bath provided the venue for the finals of the BANES football league.  The afternoon kicked off with the Year 7 match between Chew Valley and Writhlington.  Chew have had an outstanding run of games in the league having finished the season unbeaten and amassing a huge goal tally of 34 in 5 games whilst only conceding 5!

The opening exchanges were dominated by Chew and it took only 15 minutes for defender and Captain, Jake Sparks to get on the score sheet with a cracking 20 yard free kick which the keeper had no chance of stopping.  Writhlington began to make advances into Chew's half but were thwarted by the strong challenges of Sam Wedlake and defensive skills of Dan Cowell, Tom Cockram and Louis Richards.  Chew's second goal came after a sweeping attack on the left by the superb Jack Moore, some fine inter-passing in midfield by Brandon Broomfield and Tom Minty and a 30 yard rocket from man of the match Jake Sparks, again, the keeper had no chance!

Chew were now comfortable and began to show why they have dominated the Year 7 league, neat touches , clever movement and constant attack suggested that a third goal was not to far away and  after some fine dribbling skills by Ben Riches, top goal scorer Lewis Dowle cheekily lobbed the keeper from the edge of the penalty area! Mr Edwards now knew that the Cup was on its way to Chew Valley.

It has been a great season for the Year 7 football team, the commitment, behaviour and attitude has been superb and this will be a team to watch out for in the future.

Year 10

Chew Valley 0 St Gregs 1

The prospect of a second winner's medal in as many years was all the motivation the Year 10 boys needed this season.  After a successful league campaign the dream was nearly a reality.  In a tough encounter against a well organised St Gregs outfit the boys came up against their toughest opponents of the season.  Chew started well and showed intent with some early shots on goal by Connor Hunt and Ryan Saunders.

However, St Gregs soon began to claw themselves back into the game and after Luke Bales left the field with a fractured hip some of the Chew boys' heads began to drop and errors crept into the game. St Gregs capitalised on this and grew in confidence eventually pushing forward to claim the only goal of the game.

Chew continued to make chances but lacked the usual finishing touch and after a valiant final 5 minutes ended the game as runners up.

All the boys battled hard but a special mention has to go to Jack Morris and Ryan Saunders.
