B&NES & Avon Tennis Champions!

On the 27^th June, one year 7/8 girls team and two year 7/8 boys teams entered the BANES Schools Tennis tournament. The girls team of Jess Harding, Ellie Grace, Kay Downey and Ailsa Mackie remained supreme as they had been all season and sealed victory over the other schools to become BANES champions, without losing a match! The first boys team of Charlie McDonald, Dan Cowell, Sam Baber and Tom Cockram had an extremely close final match against St. Greg’s School but came out on top to become BANES champions and progress through to the county finals with the girls. The second tier boys team of Jack Kearney, George Bratchell, Kai Long and Jack Burgin also played superbly to win their tournament, with some of the boys playing in their first ever Tennis matches. Their win added a third winner’s shield to the day’s collection!

After excellent results at the BANES tournament, the girls team progressed through confidently to the county finals on Thursday 14^th July. The team of Jess, Kay and newcomers Charlotte Fowler and Amy Batt continued their winning streak and can now call themselves Avon County Champions! A fantastic result, well done!

The boys team now consisting of Charlie, Sam, Jack and Tom had also made it through to the finals, and came across fierce competition from schools in Bristol and South Gloucestershire. They didn’t quite manage to repeat their win over St Greg’s School and ended in a very respectable 4^th position. A great set of Tennis results for everyone involved, well done and long may it continue!
