Arriving at Clevedon Golf Club for the Avon Schools Championship, the Chew Valley Golf Team were soon preparing themselves for a round on a notoriously long course, which boasts fairways that stretch over 6557 yards.  The first pupil to tee off was Alex Patch who on the 3rd hole managed to drive the ball 300 yards onto the green, only to regret his first tee shot which was well hooked into the forest!  Alex had to then bludgeon his way out of the forest on the 6th hole and consequently ended up with a frustrating score of 11.  Fortunately for Alex, there were plenty of happy go lucky pheasants on the course and on the 15th hole he released his anger by hitting one (accidentally) with his ball!  Fortunately, the pheasant lived to tell the tale while Alex went on finish with a respectable round of 110.

Chris Shanks was second to tee off and as he looked out over the river towards the much sunnier Wales, he started the day with a bogey!  He did, however, manage to birdie the second hole after a superb drive and pitch, but was soon in deep water after landing in the stream on the now notorious 6th hole.  The rest of the course saw Chris playing a consistent and safe round and after scoring two pars on the 17th and 18th hole he completed the course with a good round of 94.

The third pupil and first girl to play was Vicky Watts who scored an excellent round of 93, which subsequently meant that she won the individual girls champion trophy with a handicap.  Vicky's round included some superb shots on the front 9 which accumulated in her birdying the 9th before holing a 15ft putt on the 14th.  In total Vicky managed 7 pars, which was a superb effort for the long and narrow course, and her winning score meant that she won a medal and some brand new golf balls!

The fourth and final golfer to tee off was Jemima Gregson who like Chris, struggled on the first hole but quickly improved as she birdied the 9th hole before managing to par on the 13th and 14th.  There was much drama on the 16th hole as Jemima forgot to put the handbrake on her golf trolley which subsequently saw it hurtling down the hill at high speed!  Fortunately for Jemima, one of the other golfers decided to jump in front of the bag and subsequently save it from the scrap heap.  Jemima's final score of 105 meant that she and Vicky made Chew Valley history by winning the best girls team score through a superb combined effort!
