Meningitis UK say thank you for fundraising

Meningitis UKThe school has been able to donate over £2000 to Meningitis UK following the hugely successful dance festival. After a member of staff lost his teenage niece to the disease, it was decided to raise money through donations at the festival. Over 400 performers were involved over four frenetic days and the kind donations of the audience raised the impressive amount.

Laura Bullock from Meningitis UK came in and spoke to all of Year 11 about the symptoms and the need to act quickly if in any doubt. Meningitis can kill in under four hours and the late teenages are a peak time for deaths from the disease. Every student received a card and leaflet with crucial information for their wellbeing. After the assembly, some of the Year 11 dancers were proud to present Laura with the cheque. The Bristol-based charity will put the money towards research to find a vaccine.

In addition, several staff from the school hope to raise more money by walking from Saltford to Ashton Gate on Saturday 19 June - more details at http://www.meningitisuk.org/.
