Judo Champion!
Year 10 student Peter Miles won the British Judo Championships in Sheffield last weekend. The city’s Olympic-sized rink was boarded over with judo mats for two days of non-stop action. Pete, wearing No. 13, in the Cadet Boys Under 46kg section, beat three boys before meeting Thomas Herwig in the final. Pete says that his opponent was taller and heavier than him, but his patience, tactics and skill won through as he won the bout on penalty points. As national champion, Pete (who represents Bradley Stoke Judo Club) automatically gains entry to the England Talent Development Programme. This programme aims to prepare players for progression up the World Class Performance pathway, with the ultimate goal of winning medals at the World Championships and Olympic Games. Congratulations to Peter, whose modesty belies a fierce determination and winning attitude.
