Extended Services
The government has stipulated that by 2010 all schools should be offering access to extended services, these include:
· Community access – opening the doors to the community
· Parenting Support – helping parents to engage with their children’s learning by offering support where needed
· Child care – giving children a good start in the crucial early years, supporting working parents
· Varied menu of activities – giving children a choice of opportunities to enjoy and excel outside the classroom
· Swift and easy access - working in partnership with schools, parents and outside agencies to ensure the well-being of all children
Linked to Every Child Matters, this is the key to promote pupil well-being and improve standards ensuring that each child and young person achieves their full potential.
As an extended school, we recognise that we cannot work alone in helping children and young people to achieve their potential and therefore work in partnership with other agencies, parents and the local community. In doing so we aim to help meet not only the school’s objectives, but also to share in meeting the wider needs of children, young people, families and their community.
We do this in a number of ways:
· Working closely, not only with schools and parents, but also with people beyond schools, including council departments, the health service, police, housing providers, and voluntary and community groups.
· Supporting the local area partnership for all children's services and engaging with all those working with children and young people in the area to agree local priorities and develop joint work.
· By talking to parents and schools to review extended services and to plan services to meet changing needs.
As your Extended Schools Coordinator, I would welcome your suggestions and proposals concerning how best we can support you and your children.
