Baber Charity Fund

The Baber Charity was founded in 1715 to help 'poor children apprentices to some honest calling'.  In 1990 the terms of the Charity were updated and now 'the object of this Charity is to assist young people under the age of 25 in their preparation for work, training or higher education'.  Since 1990 the Trustees have awarded modest grants to young people resident in Chew Magna or its neighbourhood; recipients include primary and secondary school pupils, students in training courses or higher education.

 The Charity could help with the cost of

 - equipment for training courses

- travel or living expenses for training courses

- purchase of text books

- significant educational visits/experiences

- voluntary work at home or overseas.

 In recent years the Charity has made awards to a student taking part in an Outward Bound Global Expedition to Romania; a post-graduate student on a work placement in a third world country and a secondary school pupil taking part in a school visit.

 The Trustees of the Baber Charity welcome applicants; consideration will be given to families who are unable to take full advantage of educational opportunities.  Although the awards are modest they may be of real help to young people who wish to widen their experience in some way.
